Self esteem is crucial as it allows individuals to embrace themselves for who they are and provides with them a new perspective in life. The benefits of exercise are widely known and are a common discussion topic with the recent awareness towards leading healthy lifestyle.
The study did not yield the originally expected outcome. This study, can only conclude that there is no significant relationship between exercise and self-esteem. Looking forward, since the results were not conclusive for the intended target population, further research should be conducted on the relationship between the duration of moderate to vigorous intensity exercise and a person’s self-esteem in the local context. An experiment with more control over the variables may yield more conclusive results.
Although the result of this study did not justify the recommendation of exercise as a means to improve a person’s self-esteem, it should not serve as a discouragement to exercising regularly. Regular exercise is important in maintaining a healthy body and we still advocate the need for everyone to participate in physical activity regularly. A person’s psychological health is linked to his or her physical activity. (Stephens, 1988) It is important that a person continues to exercise regularly to maintain their psychological well-being.
